Hidden - full film plot
Our short 2 minuite opening comes first and then:
- Samantha is found to be the detective of Halstead and she looks completely different to when she was playing with the voodoo doll, as the audience had never seen her face so they didn't know what her face looked like.
- She is hired by Elle's boyfriend to try and find Elle - and the audience slowly see the deteriation of her boyfriend(Bill).
- It is annouced on the news, that there is now 154 Halstead citizens missing - They are all young girls between 16 and 20.
- Samantha is liked a lot by all of Halstead and then in the end the audience see her walk into Elle's house and there is 154 people in there starving, but still alive.
- The audience see Samantha's face and and realise that the detective and Samantha are the same person - all along Samantha was abducting the people and being the detective.
- Bill is seen at the end holding the voodoo doll - he found it in the phone box - but what he doesn't realise is that everything he does to it hurts his girlfriend.
Thiller and Horror
We decided to cut some of the shots we were going to include, because we felt that our film was more horror like than thriller. So we have done some research into the two genres:
Thriller conventions:
Thriller conventions:
- Quick cuts when editing
- Quick camera angle changes
- Tension music and it is pacey when appropriate.
- May use shadows, mirrors and stairs.
- Often uses darkness to create a mood.
- The story is normally from the killers/victims point of view
- The audience should be made to feel sorry for the victim.
- It may play with your audiences' mind.
- Credits tend to be on a black screen.
- The most used shot should be the close-up.
- Lots of non- diegetic sound.
ONES WE HAVE USED ARE RED
Horror Conventions:
- Isolated, very dark lococations - eg: Alleyways.
- Unnatural camera work.
- Non-naturalistic or make believe characters.
- Vicious animals.
- Blood and Gore.
- Suicide and Death.
- Disruption of normality.
- Subplot of male and female relationship.
- Female victim.
- Defeat of a monster.
Editing
During editing we made some changes to our film:
- We have decided to have a lot more blackouts, especially between Elle being attacked.
- We decided to get rid of the shot of Elle dead, as we thought this was more a shot that would be included in a horror film. So we have decided to leave the audience guessing whether shes died or not.
- We have also got rid of the shot of the stairs and one of the shots where Samantha is coming out of Elle's house as the film clip is too long.
- We have shortened a lot of the shots, more towards the end, because we felt this would be more effective when creating suspense and tension.
